Sunsets and Sunrises, a Beach Proposal

Is a Cape Cod proposal on your mind this summer? Then we have some great ideas for a romantic and memorable proposal.

Just outside of downtown Provincetown, a quick drive or bike ride away sits one of Cape Cod’s most iconic and beloved destinations: Race Point Beach. With its rolling dunes, seagrasses swaying gently in the breeze, and sunsets among the very best in the world, it’s a perfect place to drop a knee in the soft sand and propose to that special someone.

You’ll likely have the whole beach to yourselves during the slow season (roughly November through April). But in the warmer, busier months, head out in the late afternoon after the crowds have cleared out and the heat of the day is fading. Make your way along the miles-along sandy expanse, walking towards the 200-year old Race Point Lighthouse, which provides a picture-worthy Cape backdrop. As the sun sets and lights up the horizon, the bright colors reflecting off the Atlantic’s crashing waves, it’ll be a moment you’ll savor forever.

Romance on the Water

For those looking to add some adventure to your proposal plans, head out on the awe-inspiring waters surrounding the Cape. Blue Claw Boat Tours, located south of Provincetown near Orleans (a scenic 30-mile drive away), offers private sunset outings that take you through Little Pleasant Bay, a protected area with calm waters and gorgeous views around every inlet and cove. The boat crew will play music of your choice and set up a table on board for your toast so that you can make the scene just right.

Another seafaring option is with Sail Cape Cod, whose stunning schooner, Bay Lady II, docks at the end of nearby MacMillan Pier. Sailing out of Provincetown for over 50 years, they are experts on the water and offer private sails aboard their ship from May through October. With just the soothing sound of the waves lapping at the ship’s side as the sun dips away, your proposal on the water is sure to be romantic and memorable.

The Ultimate View on the Cape

Perched proudly over Provincetown and visible from miles away, the Pilgrim Monument is a cherished landmark. It celebrates the history of the Cape, and you can make it a personal part of your history as well.

Just around the block from the Provincetown Hotel, you can walk over to the Monument at the end of the afternoon and climb the 252-foot high tower after the daytime crowds have dispersed. You’ll likely be alone at the top, with unbelievable views stretching from the lighthouse-marked outer tip of the Cape to the bay below and the seashore heading south down the peninsula. There truly isn’t a better panorama for your proposal than Cape Cod’s beauty surrounding you in every direction.
