The Provincetown Theater we know today stands on a legacy more than half a century in the making. It began in 1963 as the Provincetown Theater Workshop, a grassroots group performing in borrowed venues across town, from Town Hall and the Provincetown Art Association to the then local dance bar, Piggy’s. Over the decades, the Workshop evolved into the Provincetown Theater Company, producing everything from Eugene O’Neill and Glaspell works to daring new works and plays by local writers.
The Provincetown Repertory Theatre (REP) emerged in 1995 to complement the PTC, hosting a mix of contemporary plays and Provincetown favorites.
