It All Begins and Ends at the Beach

Surfing on Cape CodWhether in the quieter and less touristy off-season or during the peak of summertime, every Cape Cod day trip starts and ends at the beach. Cape Cod stretches out over 64 miles long, from the upper, mid, and lower sections out to the very tip of the outer Cape, with miles upon miles of coastline on both sides. Jump on Highway 6A, one of the most scenic drives you’ll find anywhere, and make your way outward on the Cape, taking in the classic New England scenery and passing through charming town after town.

On the Cape Cod Bay side of the peninsula, choose from several lovely beaches, such as Crosby Landing, known for its warmer water, expansive swaths of soft sand perfect for long walks, and picturesque views of the bay.

Explore the Cape’s Unique and Stunning Landscapes

Rent some bikes at the appropriately-named Rail Trail Bike Shop in Brewster and cruise a section of the 25-mile-long paved path, which is easy flat riding and accessible for all levels of bikers. Enjoy the ever-shifting landscape as you pass by marshes, ponds, and seaside vistas, with the sweet smell of saltwater and the chirping of seabirds as your backdrop.

Continue your way out on the Cape and explore the preserved beauty of the Cape Cod National Seashore. At over 27,000 acres in size, the national park encompasses much of the outer Cape, formed in 1961 to protect the area’s pristine natural landscape. Visit Nauset Light, one of several iconic lighthouses along the outer Cape, where you’ll learn about the history of the 100-plus-year-old structure while being treated to majestic views of the Atlantic coastline.
