24 Hours in Provincetown This Fall

For a short midweek getaway or a week-long vacation, Provincetown, Massachusetts is a perfect destination within a short proximity to Boston area and yet hidden from the strangers’ eyes. It’s historic charm, photographic beauty and the happy cheer are hard to compare to any other place on Cape Cod. While the summers are bustling with tourists, right after Labor Day the season comes for a relaxed vacation you have all been waiting for.

1:00 PM – Take a Fast Ferry from Boston

While there are numerous other ways to get into Provincetown, one would not want to miss a fast and a picturesque one. Provincetown Fast Ferry runs to Provincetown and back three times a day, and the 1 pm ride is just perfect for a timely hotel check in. Make sure you take pictures and be on the watch out for some whales and seals making their way through the Massachusetts Bay. The ride is advertised to take 90 minutes, however it is really a 100 minutes from dock to dock. As the boat gets closer to Provincetown, take a minute to enjoy the sites of the Race Point Lighthouse and Herring Beach

3 PM – Check into Provincetown Hotel at Gabriel’s

Just in time for a smooth and fast check-in at the Provincetown Hotel at Gabriel’s! When on a tour of its lovely Great Room and the magical garden, make sure you pick a freshly-baked chocolate chip cookie and a glass of cold lemonade or hot cider (depending on the weather). As you explore the room, make sure you check out a whirlpool bath and a cozy fireplace for a relaxing evening later that night.

5 PM – Gallery Stroll

Few visitors know, but Provincetown is the first continuous art colony in the U.S.  Rich in fine art and photography, Provincetown offers a unique opportunity to mingle with local and visiting artists at gallery openings. Catch the gleaming evening sunshine and explore the town from West to East. Sip on a glass of wine and enjoy the creative heritage of the Land’s End on a Friday gallery stroll along a special Gabriel’s Arts Route.

8:30 PM – Dinner with a Captain

New places this year, yet Strangers & Saints have won the hearts of Provincetown visitors and locals. The restaurant is a Mediterranean-influenced tavern with a great choice of appetizers, New York style cocktails and an extremely warm and homey atmosphere. Located in the newly renovated 1850 home of Captain John Cook, Strangers & Saints will be at the finish line of your gallery tour. Local producers, distillers and farmers, delicious Cape Cod seafood.

Strangers & Saints is now open from 5 pm till late and half past eight is a great time to get that perfect spot by the fireplace.

10:30 PM – Relax by the Fireplace

A glass of wine by the fireplace…a warm bath…and good night!

9 AM – Breakfast of Champions

At the Provincetown Hotel, delicious made-to-order breakfast is served in a light-filled Great Room along with laughter and entertaining stories. Omelets, pancakes, French Toast with sausage or bacon, yummy parfaits, pastries and a great coffee blend are served in the Great room from 8:30 to 10 am.

When you walk in the door at Gabriel’s, you are ‘family.’ The atmosphere is extremely laid-back – the staff and the innkeepers are putting their heart into each minute of your stay.

11 AM – You Don’t Have to Leave

The check out is at 11 am but you are welcome to leave your luggage in our office and use the Great Room and other common areas throughout the day.  Make these 24 hours worth of your trip to Provincetown. Rent a bike at Arnold’s and make your way to Herring Cove Beach  to catch that last warm summer sunshine. Grab some snacks at the Canteen on the way!
