When planning a trip to Cape Cod, your ultimate travel bucket list will not be complete without an Art’s Dune Tour. The dune tour experience is truly a local gem of the Cape and in 2016 it celebrated its 70th anniversary in Provincetown, MA. Run by a few generations of a local family who know and love our pristine lands, Art’s Dune Tour takes you on an off-road adventure through the heart of the national historic district of the Cape Cod National Seashore Park.
Accompanied by the stories of the seashore wildlife and the locallegends,the sights you see on a tour are simply mesmerizing: wispy beach grass, dark green pine trees, deep red beach plums, and the shoreline for as long as your eyes can see. Along the hidden dune trails, you will find the famous “dune shacks” where legendary artists and writers like Eugene O’Neill and Harry Kemp created some of their most significant works of word and art. The tour also takes you to the remains of the Peaked Hill Life Saving Station and shares a story of the brave “life savers” who rescued thousands from the doomed fishing shipwrecks.
The Provincetown Cape Cod National Seashore is part of a federal reserve and these protected lands are home to a myriad of rare birds and wildlife. Make sure you take a camera for some special memories with this delightful backdrop of the Cape Cod Sand Dunes.
Daily Trips begin at 10 AM and end with a special sunset tour at approximately 5:30 PM. Times might vary during the season and reservations are recommended. The Dune Tour fleet is enclosed and air conditioned for an enjoyable ride over the pristine lands. Each vehicle holds six to eight passengers and the sunset tour can include a dinner by the fire option.
